Jim, Please change my Pilsen from BestMalz to MFB Pils per Sean's advice. I'm intersted in the Aromatic if you have some to spare. Also, I'll even just take a 1/3 or 1/4 bag if you need a large quantity, I'm just trying to get some common specialty malts on hand. Also, I'm happy with the BestMalz Munich if thats what you want; it makes no difference to me. Finally, if the half sack of Vienna is still available I'll take it. Thanks, John

Can I get a price list? Also, some guidance. I haven't done all grain yet, but I'm dangerously close to having all the equipment I need. I'm sure I'll get a bunch of different opinions. I like various wheat beers, but my beer tastes are expanding. I'm close to having my fermentation temp controlled so I could do lagers. So, what do you think?

So, what do you think? I would probably start out with a bag of Canada Malting 2-row and wheat. Keep your wheat recipe simple using 50/50 2-row to wheat. Hop varieties and amounts will make more of a difference in final flavor when brewing American Wheat. If you want Bavarian, use the same malts and use a good Bavarian yeast strain like Wyeast 3068. A continental pilsner would be ideal in a Bavarian wheat, but I wouldn't worry about it right now. Get your process down before starting to worry about perfecting your recipe.

John, the vienna was already taken, but I changed your pilsner and our munich split.
Current available partials:
1/2 flaked wheat 1/2 crystal 40 1/2 caramunich 60 (John, if we dont get any other takers, do you want to switch this to the C40?)
Harley, send me your email and I'll send you the price list. As for what malts to get, my recommendation would really depend on your experience. How long have you been brewing extracts? How do you feel about recipe development? If you're jumping from extract to all-grain relatively quickly, you may want to try some pre-made kits from places like morebeer.com, northernbrewer.com or homebrew.com. Another option would be to get a good base malt like Canada 2-row or pale and then get your specialties from the local brew shop....then make beers based on solid recipes (in our forum or Jamil's book is a good choice).
Worst case, buy nothing now and when you're ready, you can give me a call and I'll hook you up with what you need for cost (I have most grains)....that'll give you chance to brew while you wait for the next order.
Jim

Anybody happen to work closer to downtown area that might be willing to pick my order up if I pay ahead of time? I have a prior commitment every 3rd Tuesday of the month already. I'm obviously willing to drive to pick it up, just hoping to get a little closer than O'Fallon if I can.

I bet something can be worked out. Since I can't speak for him, I'll give him a ring and see if he can contact you. Even if downtown doesn't work, we both live in the city.

Thanks, John John - I could probably take a 1/4 of the aromatic, but I have a little on hand so don't really need a 1/2. How much do you want? Folks - assuming we get the aromatic, the order is now full with the exception of the following partials: 1/2 flaked wheat 1/2 crystal 40 1/4 - 1/2 aromatic

Don't forget the 1/2 CaraMunich 60 that should also be remaining.

If we only have orders for 1/2 a sack of Crystal 40L and 1/2 a sack of CaraMunich 60L, I say we split the difference and just order 1 sack of Crystal 60L.

Jim, I'm JohnE5's brother. He can't log in from work but wanted me to send this update so that we can fill the order promptly.
John (and I) don't need 1/2 a bag of Aromatic. We'll try again next time. Thanks for trying. If someone still needs some, we'd be in for 1/4 a bag I think that the CaraMunich is still 1/2 available and we drop our request for 1/2 a bag and change to Crystal 40. We'd have still preferred the previous but don't know that we can consume that much in a year.
To summarize our order: Pilsen, 2 row, 1/2 bag Munich, 1/2 bag Crystal 40
That might free up 2 full bags.
Thanks, Chris

Thanks, Chris I actually put myself down for the rest of the caramunich, but I'm happy with a 1/4 sack of it if anyone else wants in. Other partials still available: 1/2 flaked wheat 1/2 crystal 40 1/2 aromatic I'll let the order run thru the weekend and see if these get taken, otherwise we'll decide how to proceed then.

Anyone interested in some Alhambra Unmalted Wheat? This is the stuff sold by Kent Robertson at Missouri Malt Supply. Excellent grain, locally grown, great for tradition Wit brewing, etc. I need 10-15 pounds, but I'd be fine with getting a whole 50 sack if others are interested in taking some of it off my hands. 40 cents a pound, and I could have it at the August GBS meeting.
